I think I might suffer from split personalities. I find myself intrigued and energized by city life yet often long for the peaceful quiet of the countryside on small town America.
I have spent the last few days in one of my favorite cities, Chicago. This city has a special energy that is hard to ignore. It is full of life, culture and history. It is vibrant and calm at the same time. There are details of this city that I fall in love with again and again with each visit. Everything is accessible by foot or via city transportation, And, to all of you who are going to say it…I will beat you to it. Yes, I know it is September and there is no windchill below zero. I still love this city below zero. 🙂
And, then there is small-town America. For me, I start with San Luis Obispo which has quaint charm and great college memories. Within miles, you can dip your toes in the pacific or take in the rolling hills that make up the countryside. These hills fill color each year between March and May which will take your breath away. There is a simple charm to the city that slows everything down and seems to make life’s priorities become clearer.
I wonder if we all have this type of split personality or is just me? The reality is that I have lived in the ‘burbs for most of my life…somewhere in between the city and the country. Would it be possible for me to live in one or the other instead of both? I would like to try both at some point in my life. I imagine a small town cottage at the same type I think about a small city studio where a car is no longer even needed for daily life. Both are equally inspiring to me.
Are you city or country? What inspires you and what do you daydream about?
